Tom got involved with the Art House initially as an extension of work with Fulton’s Brick District. Downtown Fulton had a lot of good places to eat and several good places to shop, but it seemed to be lacking in things to do. So, to further the Brick District’s efforts towards downtown economic development, Tom lead the charge in starting a nonprofit art gallery.
Once the gallery was up and running, Tom continued to remain active because he really started to appreciate the art. The quality of the local artists displayed in the gallery and rotating exhibits inspired Tom to begin painting, participate in art classes offered by Art House, and even take part in the first “Callaway Plein Air” event. Tom has since stayed involved as a way to continue to participate in the arts first-hand. He has also used what he has learned through Art House and applied that knowledge in his new project, the renovation of the Brick District Playhouse.
Tom continues to chair the monthly Art House Board meetings, offering some strategic business direction, and addressing legal issues. He also works to balance the competing interests in the group and help the Board make decisions by consensus. Tom has been and continues to be a vital part in the development and success of Art House.
